The DuPont Food Pavilion at the 2012 Indiana State Fair

Everyone loves food. It brings families together, bridges different cultures and stars in countless television shows. Food is also the top reason visitors attend the Indiana State Fair. This year, the State Fair debuts a brand new 16,000 square foot exhibit dedicated entirely to food!

The DuPont Food Pavilion, located in the heart of the fairgrounds near the iconic Midway arch, will feature a variety of components of the “food chain,” including the:
• Farmers who grow it
• Chefs who prepare it
• Artisans who craft it
• Issues connected to it

Learning about food is great, but tasting it is even better! Inside The DuPont Food Pavilion a retail store will feature more than 30 Indiana made specialty items. Presented by Indiana Artisan and Indiana Grown, the state’s official brands for unique and local foods, the market will offer products like Burton’s Maplewood Farms maple syrup, 240Sweet Artisan marshmallows and Hoosier Momma Bloody Mary mix, to name just a few.

Across the pavilion, visitors can watch cooking shows at the Red Gold Culinary Corner, a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen where chefs and food experts will prepare great dishes and answer questions throughout the fair. Topics will range from nose-to-tail cooking to molecular gastronomy. In addition, Indiana Humanities will conduct daily discussions with personalities from the soon-to-be-released book Food For Thought: An Indiana Harvest.

Nutrition is the focus of Purdue University’s MyPlate interactive display where officials will offer advice on how to make healthy food choices at home, in the grocery store, at restaurants and even while visiting the State Fair!

While food is fun, it does have a serious side. Hunger is a growing concern. Fortunately, companies such as DuPont, along with Hoosier farmers and food organizations, are well positioned to help feed the world, and visitors will learn more about some of these important and innovative programs.

So as you celebrate Hoosier Spirit at this year’s fair, take some time to celebrate Indiana food, too. Find out more about the “farm to fork” link and why our food choices are so important. From sea salt caramels to chipotle catsup and celebrity chefs to culinary trendsetters, there’s a lot to love about the DuPont Food Pavilion.
